06. Where to go from here

Introduction

Just thought that I would place a few examples of things you can do if you'd like to continue with type design, as this class can only really introduce you to it. Many of these things cost money and are not intended to feel like or be an upsell.

Typographics (2026)

Typographics is a yearly design festival focusing on type. A previous iteration of this festival is where James Edmondson's "Typographic Sweatpants" talk came from. There are still somewhat discounted early bird tickets available at the time of this writing (until May 15th), however you might consider writing about working as a volunteer as a way to attend. There's also free TypeLab workshops that are open to the public. The talks go to their YouTube channel as well. You can see the lineup for this year here

Type @ Cooper

Related to Typographics is Type@Cooper, which is an intensive designed with working folks in mind. It does cost a non-negligible amount of money but there is a condensed and extended program. This is a more hardcore option, but polished and well documented work from this class should prepare you to apply here. If neither of these options are doable for you financially, you might consider doing a workshop there.

Type and Media

If you're feelin' hardcore about type design in the near or distant future Type and Media is another option. It is a one-year masters program in type design. At the very least very exciting work comes out of this program.

Sketch Your Fonts Course from Viktor Baltus (@typedesignclass)

I've previously mentioned the @typedesignclass instagram account which is great, however he also launched a course called Sketch Your Fonts that is pretty affordable if that is of interest to you.

Type Electives

This is another great option if you're looking for courses from exciting folks in the industry. While again, the courses cost money, they offer options for scholarships and opportunities to pay what you can.
