(Week 03) Discussion, Composition + More Gestalt

Introduction

This week we're looking at a bit more of the Gestalt Principles and then the idea of Composition.

  • Continuity is the visual language with which you construct your work. For example, this might be the "look" or treatment of the photographs in Photoshop. It might be using the same typefaces, at the same sizes, in the same set of locations.
  • Proximity has to do with how objects relate to each other via distance. This could be near or far, enveloping or enwrapping, overlapping. Our mind forms assumptions about how they relate to each other.
  • Symmetry/Asymmetry is correspondence in some translational way across a plane. Lack of or low correspondence is asymmetry. This symmetry can be
  • Compositon is how you layout or arrange your imagery. This will become very important in helping you figure out different ways of taking the elements in the library and giving them new or different relationships.
